Blogging … and GO!

I am a web developer currently residing in Salt Lake City area.  I have been wanting to start a blog for a few months now and it took me some time to get it all setup.  Now I’m here!  So why am I starting a blog? Well that requires an explanation in back story of the last few months.

The week of Halloween 2014 I went into a local Plus Size Boutique that I had been summoning up the courage/time to get into.  Something about it seemed intimidating.  It was mostly dresses from what I could tell online and up until this point I would only allow myself to buy dresses if they had a specific purpose.  I didn’t wear dresses to my day job as I had a lot of fear around being taken less seriously as a developer.  Software development is a field of overwhelmingly men and I did my best at work to try and blend.  Femininity didn’t feel accessible.  I was very concerned for how my male co-workers would view me if I came to work in dresses.  Dresses felt like a billboard advertising my womanhood.  Anyhow, I went into Buxom Modern Plus Size Boutique the week of Halloween to find a costume.

Jenny (the owner) could not have been more welcoming.  She helped me to try on all the costumes she had I think and then I decided instead on a BB Dakota dress that looked like it could fit a fiery goddess sort of dress to me.  I used the dress on Halloween and then made it back to the shop for round 2 on Saturday November 1st.  That was the day that changed a bunch of things.  I bought my first Cherry Velvet dress and a trench coat by BB Dakota.

These purchases were both very significant for me.  The first because I had never spent that much money on a single item of clothing before in my life.  I had to have the dress.  It made me feel like magic.  It was very retro/pinup and I had been wanting for some time to begin developing a pinup style because at the time it was the only style that made me feel sexy.  The second because I had never bought myself a heavy winter coat.  I had always wanted to have a fancy dress coat but since I am not usually super cold in the winter I never justified the cost.

I made the decision after that day that if I was going to spend that kind of money on a dress then I needed to start wearing all the dresses in my closet.  So I made the rather extreme decision to wear dresses exclusively going forward.  From there it’s been a whirlwind of self love and support from strangers that has propelled me to new heights of confidence without me even realizing what was happening.  I now post my outfits to instagram daily and have been since January 16, 2015.   The body positivity and body acceptance movement has really changed my life and I am excited to see where my adventures in blogging take me.
